Greece Blocks Approval of 21st EU Sanctions Package Against Russia
EU ambassadors gathered again on July 22 to discuss a new sanctions package, but no final decision has been reached due to Greece's objections.
Athens opposes restrictions affecting the transportation of Russian LNG. Greece fears that the ban will impact European shipping companies without significantly reducing Russia's revenues, as supplies would simply be redirected to other countries.
The new package includes restrictions against 215 companies and organizations, including 94 financial institutions. There are also discussions about a ban on the import of Russian LNG and measures against banks that help circumvent sanctions.
